About the Artist

Imogen Kilfoyle (BA Hons, MA, PGCE)

Cliffs (Giant Causeway, N Ireland)

I trained at Staffordshire University and Cardiff University, (Howard Gardens) Gaining my BAhons and Masters in Ceramic Design/Sculpture.  Both courses involved drawing, painting & design.  I did my PGCE at Staffordshire University.  I have fourteen years experience of teaching students of all learning abilities.

I teach Recreational Art classes in all drawing and water-based mediums, (also specialising in Watercolours),  at Lichfield Sports Centre (Cricket and Hockey Club), Collins Hill, Eastern Avenue, Lichfield, Staffs, WS13 7SQ.  I cater for all learning needs and levels of abilities.

I worked previously for the Community Education Department at South Staffordshire College for 13 years.  I have taught on both recreational and accessed (OCN & City and Guilds) art course programs.    I also helped to set up, organise & taught on the Art for Life course.

The Art for Life Course: This course was designed to support students with Mental Health problems.  It also included students who had other health & learning problems.

Student Exhibitions: I have also organised, and set up Student art exhibitions & displays for community art classes at local venues such as Lichfield Library, Waitrose Café & at Samuel Johnson Community Hospital, Lichfield, Staffs.  The end of term/year exhibitions are important to the students creative development.

Personal Art Work: My art work is based on still life (natural forms and manmade objects), landscape and seascape.   It is also a record and memory of places I have visited. I enjoy experimenting & exploring with textural mediums, materials and surfaces to see what images I can create. I am interested in the colours, tones, contrasts and textures, including the juxtapositions of patterns and structures observed in elements of the land/seascape environment.  I enjoy focusing into detail and textures. I work in a variety of mediums (print, watercolour, ink, acrylics & textural mediums) to create the observed scenes. Work that I produce can be realistic and abstracted in design.

I am a practising artist and regularly attend professional development courses during the holiday periods to keep my creative skills up to date. This includes research into artists. My experiments & art practise, including attending courses are a very important part of my development as an artist & teacher.

Exhibitions:

I have won awards for my Etching (Prints) at the RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) and Lichfield Society of Artists.

I also exhib my work at the Emporium Gallery, Bird Street, Lichfield, Staffs & currently have Abstract Daisy in the Gallery (I created this from using various paints & inks on Tyvex paper).  I am currently exploring the Tyvex with various other mediums & techniques.
