                      Course Description

Art Courses:   The courses all aim to build up the Students confidence in drawing, planning, design skills, painting & textural medium, including the ability to explore technical processes & ideas at all levels. Students will learn how to draw and/or paint.  A variety of drawing, textural & water-based mediums are covered.  Learning is carried out through project work/themes.  Mediums & techniques will be demonstrated.  The tutor will provide advice & technical support on the development of your paintings/project work.

Subjects & Themes: A variety of subject themes will be covered through project work at all levels.  This could be:-  All aspects of seasonal landscapes, painting water in various moods, mists, still life, building/street scenes, portraiture/figures & animals.  The subject themes may be introduced & carried out over each term.  This will enable you to build up your knowledge & confidence using mediums & techniques.

Beginners Courses:   This course covers at introductory level the technical aspects & processes of learning about drawing & water-based paint mediums.   Students who wish to brush up on their creative skills are welcome to join the course. The course will cover handling of a range of materials/equipment, drawing skills, mark-making, texture, basic perspective (aerial, linear & colour), composition/design, tone, colour mixing, wash applications, including how to develop and build up a final drawing or painting.  Further terms on the Beginner Courses will show how to paint & create aspects of a scene such as skies, trees, grass, water/reflections/waves/seascapes & put objects into a scene etc such as figures or buildings. Still Life drawing and painting will also be covered at introductory level, such as painting flowers, natural forms & man made objects.

The Beginners Watercolour Course is an excellent course to start with and gives you the confidence to learn how to paint.  Watercolour is a fantastic medium to learn, due to the properties and lovely effects that can be achieved from the medium.  Also that it can be manipulated easily, lifted out & can be combined with other mediums.  A Beginners Drawing and Painting Materials  List is available.  Please contact the Tutor for further information.

  • Mixed Media Drawing & Painting – Day & Time: Tues 1:30 – 4:30pm
  • Watercolours with Drawing Skills (Level: 2 Course) Day & Time: Thursday 10 – 1pm  
  • Watercolours with Drawing Skills (Level: 3 & 4 Course) Day & Time: Thursday 1:30 – 4:30pm

Intermediate Course: On this course you will build upon & develop skills & techniques learnt on the Beginners Watercolour Course.  The course aims to give you confidence, and the ability to experiment & explore a range of drawing & water-based mediums. This also includes printing & collage techniques.  You will learn design skills & build upon drawing skills. You will learn how to structure, design & develop a composition, including research into collecting pictures (visual information) to prepare for a design or painting scene.  Confidence in drawing & Painting Skills/Techniques will be carried out through project work/themes.  Please contact the Tutor for further Course/project  theme information.

Creative Watercolours  – Day & Time: Monday 10:30 – 1:30pm

Mixed Media Drawing & Painting Courses run on the following days:

Day & Time: Tuesday 10 – 1pm, Friday 10 – 1pm & Friday 1:30 – 4:30pm
